Sarah Ansell
-Design Committee ChairpersonI began to work with Stained Glass, ten years ago, and realized what "finding your niche" meant. From the first successful glass cut and break to the final moment of hanging it in the window and the way the light danced with the glass, illuminating it, altering it, wiping it out, or simply shining through it, I knew I had found my creative niche.
In 2003, I opened and operated an art gallery, The White Pelican, in Grafton IL, for five years. There I established relationship with 20+ artists to show and promote the sale of their work. Other duties included creative display, bookkeeping, inventory lists, and sales tax. In addition to mananging the shop, I operated an active Stained Glass studio, accepting commissions and creating original designed ornaments, sun-catchers, and windows.
My affiliation with art in Grafton led me to the opportunity to be the Coordinator for an annual art fair in Grafton. In its 5th year, 2011, I have been involved from the get-go, but head- coordinator for the last four years. Grafton's annual art fair takes place the second weekend of September with handmade and fine art, live music, food, art activities, and demonstrations.
Within the Alton community my involvement includes a Board Member of Alton Marketplace, Design Committee Chair, and Coordinator of the Green Gift Bazaar, partnered with the Sierra Club, to continue to bring an eco-friendly event to downtown Alton on Small Business Saturday. Additionally, I volunteer at Jacoby Arts Center, helping in The Artist Shop, a member of the Marketing Committee, The Artist Shop Committee, and on the Community Arts Access Review Panel.
I live and work out of my home studio in Alton and continue to accept Stained Glass commissions and create original designs. Some of my current work can be found at The Artist Shop in Jacoby, as well as, my Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/ansellarts In addition to my community involvement and artwork I am a wife and mother of two.
